(A SERMON FOR THE MOMENT.)
No one can be alone and for that reason God gave to Adam, Mama Eve as a helper..
In life we need physical and spiritual help, but the greatest of helps come when we are helped in the spirit and that help comes only from God Almighty.
THE RIDERS :
– No matter how strong a man may be, there are occasions he will need help or helpers.
– No matter how rich a man may be, there are times he will need financial helpers.
– Even the doctors need helpers in times of challenges.
– In crisis times like it is now in our land, Nigeria, and other lands in the world we need help and helpers.
“The best helper, however, is God.”
The Psalmist cried and said:
“Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.30:11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;” (Psalm 30 :10 – 11)
Definitions :
CHAMBERS 21st Century dictionary defines hep in several ways such as:
(i) to contribute towards the access of something:
(ii) to assist or aid.
(iii) to provide or supply with a portion.
We should be helpers to each other in line with this definition.
The best of helps is never physical help, but spiritual help. You can pray for the sick, the lost and the desperate and they get help.
This is also help. If you win any battle in the spirit you will win the battle when it manifests itself in the physical realm.
In this respect many people today surround themselves with spiritual powers, to win battles, but most times this effort brings harm to them in the long run.
No matter how small a problem may be in this life, there is always a spiritual dimension to it. Therefore we must strughle to win at the spiritual side of every issue in this life.
In Ephesian 6 :12 we read :
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Every human problem is heightened as we have read above by Satan and his cohorts.. You are told their nature as :
-pricipalities and powers
-the rulers of the darkness of this world
– they are described as spiritual wickedness.
We need help from above.
In this chapter we read above, there is a recommendation:
.6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (Ephesians 6 : 13 – 18).
People always arm themselves with spirits to fight against the spirits that trouble them .
How can the devil help a man to fight him the devil?
Many have gone from worse to worst, because they have not depended on God. Going in- between the above verses we are advised to get help from faith in God,, the word of God which is the sword of the spirit.
Additionally, we have to take the helmet of salvation , prayers and making supplication (intercession) for the people of God.
The best helps are of God.
The Psalmist noted as follows :
33:20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. (Psalm 33 : 20).
A troubled man must learn to wait upon the Lord. You cannot act like Saul who could not wait for Samuel, but went ahead to offer the sacrifice. We have to wait always in prayer, for God to send help to us.
God will never disappoint them who cry to Him with penitence.
God is a present help : this means He is not far.
46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (Psalm 46 :1)
People are testifying today of the help from above. David had his own experience when he said:
94:17 Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence. (Psalm 94 : 17).
Going through this message let us pray for help.
Do not trust yourself or any power you may have?
Do you know that great landlords have at one time becone tenants?
Do you know that great men of battle have died on battle grounds?
Do you know that the rich also cry?
They could not help themselves.
Note this : If a man’s way please the Lord, He will make a way for him. God sends help and that can come from human beings or angels depending on who you will see coming for the rescue.
LET US PRAY:
Lord God you are my helper. I cannot help myself. Forgive my sins and be my present help. I need you Oh! Lord, I trust in your helping Hand Lord, in Jesus name Amen.
