A Selfish person is someone who knows and thinks about himself. Selfish people think of what is good for them even at the expense of others.
– They are in every home, even among kindred people.
– They are in politics to do what will benefit them..
– Selfish people cannot be satisfied .
-A selfish person can kill a friend, even their children to get what they want..
QUESTIONS:
CAN A SELFISH PERSON GO TO HEAVEN?
CAN A SELFISH MAN HAVE A FRIEND.?
God who created all things needed man, so He made man in His image and likeness , Let us say God wants fellowship with men , call that affiliation or “LOVE”in real context of the word.
There’s that Biblical quotation Psalm 8 : 3 – 6 :
8:3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;8:4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?8:5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. (Psalm 8 : 3-6).
God is not selfish. He carries all things He created. Selfish people can only carry their cohorts.
Selfishness has great irreversible price to be paid.. So painful are such prices to be paid by selfish people.
LET US CONSIDER 3 SELFISH PEOPLE FROM THE BIBLE.
(1) CAIN:
Gen 4 : 1 – 9.
Both Cain and Abel offered sacrifices to God. Abel’s sacrifice found pleasure in the sight of the Lord., but that of Cain was rejected. Cain was angry as he felt God ought to accept his sacrifice. He was full.of envy against Abel. Selfish people are very envious people. He therefore killed his brother Abel for nothing sake.
When God asked “where is thy brother Abel?” He replied “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Gen. 4:9.
The life.of others are unprofitable to selfish people.
In a nation where the leaders are selfish people, the masses waste away daily.
(2) EVE. Read Genesis 3 : 1 – 6
Our first mother Eve was selfish. God had told Adam not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God said to Adam in the day you did eat you will die. Eve knew about this from the husband.
The serpent told Eve that they will not surely die but that their eyes will be opened and they will have knowledge of good and evil and become wise.
Eve became selfish and forgot there was death as a prize for.eating of the fruit. She ate the fruit and gave also to the husband and both.of them ate and surely died.
Adam lived 930 years and died, others in their generations unto the children to this day die. Death was never the plan of God for man. There is a price or cost for all acts of selfishness.
(3) Abimeleck Read Judges 9 : 1 – 57.
9:1 And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother’s brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying,
9:2 Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.
.9:3 And his mother’s brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.
9:4 And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baalberith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.
9:5 And he went unto his father’s house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.
9:6 And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem. (Judges 9 : 1 – 6).
The people of Schchem had made Abimeleck their grandson king over Israel. Abimeleck preferred to rule instead of the 70 sons of Gideon.
Out.of selfish desire he lobbied his mother’s people to crown him king. Out of personal greed he.killed seventy.of his brother’s to sit on the throne.
There is no distance which selfishness cannot go.
REBELLION AGAINST ABIMELECK
9:22 When Abimelech had reigned three years over Israel
,9:23 Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech: Judges 9 : 22 – 23)
People who are treacherous will meet treachery, where ever they may be, or the height they msy occupy, God will set people who are like him against him.
9:52 And Abimelech came unto the tower, and fought against it, and went hard unto the door of the tower to burn it with fire.
9:53 And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech’s head, and all to brake his skull
.9:56 Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren:
9:57 And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal. (Judges 9 : 52 – 53, 56 – 57)
As read this sermon today take note. Are you a selfish person, there is price to.pay for all greed.
COST OF SELFISHNESS.
(1) There is a prize, note “PRIZE” for selfishness. It could come as money, political position, or connection. These are the gains of being selfish, which the selfish receives.
These are what the selfish receives through his greed and covetousness.
However , selfish people pay prices, please note the word “PRICES” for being selfish. Selfishness will cost the selfish man something.
The price could come in taking their own lives, they may donate their children or wife,, even their friends to keep up their greed.
Beloved children of God, you should strife rightly and or righteously for all you want to possess.. God will bless your efforts.
Note this exhortation :
8:10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.8:11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. (Proverbs 8 : 10 – 11).
