CHASTISEMENT
- He that rejects chastisement rejects life.
- Kings chastise their subjects.
- Kings are chastised by men and colleagues.
- Parents chastise their children.
- Bosses chastise their subordintes and line staff.
If all these, why will God also not chastise men and particularly His children?
In the work place chastisement can be a warning, suspension or a sack. In God’s temple it can be a warning or sickness or otherwise.
Chastisement leads a repentant man to obedience and the result is that evil is waved.
Meditation
The chastening of the Lord is a form of discipline or correction that God uses to shape his children. The Bible says that the Lord chastens those he loves.
Has God chastened you once in this life?
You have your answer.

READ :
Heb.12 :7 “If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Is chastening sweet ?
Hebrews 12:11 No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields a harvest of righteousness and peace to those who have been trained by it.
FROM WHERE AND WHY COMETH CHASTENING?
When we do the wrong thing, we must go through chastisement, whether at home or place of work by stakeholders. David counted Israel and Jerusalem ( a census) against the will of God.
24:9 And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.
24:10 And David’s heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
God prescribed three chastenings :
24:13 So God came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days’ pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
And David said in great remorse:
24:14 And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man. (2 Samuel 24 : 14).
24:15 So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.
24:16 And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.
24:17 And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s house.
Chastening comes from stakeholders in your life. If no one chastens you, then you are on your own and do not forget that it is better to be chastised to make you move right than for certain unpleasant things in life to be your chastiser.
NOTES :
- It it better to follow than to cry when pulled hard along the way.
- It is better to obey and be blessed than to make sacrifice to regain peace.
Chastisement leads to repentance. It is better that God chastises us than for us to fall into the chastening of men.
Prayer :
Lord God only your chastening will bless me and not the christening of the enemy.
I fall at Your feet Lord, have mercy on me in Jesus name Amen.
