A RETURN TO BETHEL

TO SERVE GOD YOU NEED TO HAVE THE FOUNDATION OF TRADITION.

You, as a man or woman, who wants to serve God practically, must have a tradition, a consistent and righteous manner of worship, in accordance with the required standard of worship  from the Lord.

Tradition goes with  experience from  life events  and let me say it this way: “It  is what people are known for.” What you are known for has become your tradition.

The way and manner in which people do things over the years, become their tradition.

When Christians celebrate Easter as a tradition, they must remember Christ’s  return to heaven  and that  he is coming back to take us home.

Note what Jacob Said :

28:19 And he called the name of This world is not my home

I’m just passing through

My treasures are laid up

Somewhere beyond the blue

The Angels beckon me

From Heaven’s open door

And I can’t feel at home

In this world anymore

Oh Lord, you know

I have no friend like you

If Heaven’s not my home

Then Lord what will I do

The Angels beckon me

From Heaven’s open door

And I can’t feel at home

In this world anymorethat place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

28:20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

28:21 So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:

28:22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee. (Genesis 28 : 19 – 22).

By this Jacob was setting a tradition he will follow borne out his experience with God.

Today people say  certain things, when they are in desperate mood  in a life situation. This was the case with Jacob as he was running away from Esau, after he stole the brother’s birth right.

When a man looks at the horizon, infront of him, where he is going to  and cannot see the end of that journey, he could possibly make  a vow of what to do before God, if he be delivered. Such a vow may  appear to be  impossible to do.

So Jacob had said :

“If You Lord will take me to where I am going and bring me back to my father’s house, then these will I do” :-

(1) The Lord God shall be my God.

(2) the stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house.

(3) of all that God shall give me I shall give a tenth.

GOD DOES NOT FORGET YOUR VOWS AND PLEDGES.

You should be careful of this and be consistent with your God. Remember that  God is never a debtor, but remains a creditor. He will do it for you in His faithfulness.

God will always remind His  people what they said they will do.

You should be mindful to know that what ever you say to God which  you will do, go on record. You should not make statements in desperate moments before God, which you know you cannot keep. If you do so, God will call you a fool.

AFTER GOING THROUH  GOD SAID TO JACOB :

31:13 I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred. (Genesis 31 : 13).

Some people travel to distant lands and the things in those lands become so sweet that they forget their heritage and tarry never to return.

Some have in like manner forgotten the  beauty of heaven, when they get enticed by the things of this world. Jim Reeves had sang this song :

(verse 1):

This world is not my home

I’m just passing through

My treasures are laid up

Somewhere beyond the blue

The Angels beckon me

From Heaven’s open door

And I can’t feel at home

In this world anymore

Chorus:

Oh Lord, you know

I have no friend like you

If Heaven’s not my home

Then Lord what will I do

The Angels beckon me

From Heaven’s open door

And I can’t feel at home

In this world anymore.

Jim Reeves felt this world is never his home , but there was a Bethel waiting for him.

WHAT DID JACOB DO?

31:17 Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;

31:18 And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Padanaram, for to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan. (Genesis 31 : 17 – 18).

OBEDIENCE WAS THE TRADITION OF THE PATRIARCHS.

A man who wants to follow God must have a tradition of obedience and should pray never to fail to keep pledges or vows made before the Lord. The whole life of a man who is  in heavenly tradition, is committed to obey God at  all times.

All the Patriarchs, Abraham,  Isaac and Jacob kept one consistent tradition of serving God commitedly.

WHAT IS YOUR TRADITION  WITH GOD?

NOTE:

(1) It is possibe for men to forget the vows they made to God, but God will not forget their  vows to bring in fulfilment to them.

(2) It is possible for men to see the great burden to   fulfil such vows, but God  remains the provider of the ram for the sacrifice. What God needs, is  man’s  willingness to obey, for God will provide the strength and possible support Amen.

REMEMBER :

Jacob left his inlaw, after God had prospered him, and left in obedience  to Bethel and  built a temple for the Lord in line with his vows

35:6 So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.

35:7 And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

35:15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel. (Genesis 35 : 6,7,15).

Have you returned to your Bethel? Have the enticements in a  strange land made you to forget heaven? The answers are yours.

May God bless you with this message that you will not  forget your Bethel, Amen.
