A MAN’S DESTINY IS PERFECTED BY TRIAL

We will anchor this sermon with the life of Joseph son of Jacob.

If you are a covenant person and without trial  you may never get to your planned destination from  God.

How?

Such a person could derail, or live in complacency, with a life without challenges.

Let us take this definition of Covenant person for our purpose today :

A covenant person is a person with a  divine purpose, willed by God to use him and bless him , for  the sake of all mankind or for specific humanity.

A life without trial will not have testimonies. It is through time experiences that men get closer to God. Indeed such people, are those who are  divinely ordained for a purpose.

Take these steps :

(1) Joseph was forgotten in prison.

Take this example of Joseph:

From the pit, where he was dumped by his brother’s,  he was sold to the Ishmaelite traders. They also sold him to Potipher, whose wife harrassed him for an ordeal, which would have ended his destiny and testimony. Have you been challenged thus?

False accusation from  Potiphar’s wife,  saw him to prison and from jail, he got to the home of Pharoah, to become a Governor in Egypt. Without those painful moments, Joseph may never have got to Egypt in the first instance.

Let us take a systematic survey of this episode.

Problems facilitate Destiny.

When the problems of a destined person lasts for long it will appear as if God has forgotten the person. Joseph was in prison and yet served as head of the prisoners, but no matter how long that headship of prisoners in his jail term  lasted, being the head of prisoners was not his destiny.

A time came when two officers of Pharaoh offended him  the buttler and the  Chief baker. Pharoah therefore confined them in the same prison where Joseph was confined.

(2) The dreams of the buttler and the baker.

A time came when the buttler and the baker each had a dream in the same night and each dream had its own interpretation. In the morning Joseph came to them and saw that each of them was sad on account of the dream. Each of them told Joseph of his dream.

(2i) The Chief  buttler’s dream  Gen. 40 : 9 – 11.

40:9 And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;

40:10 And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:

40:11 And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.

2ii) The  Chief baker’s dream.Gen. 40 : 16 – 17.

40:16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head:40:17 And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.

(3) The interpretation of the dreams.:

Joseph told the buttler the interpretation of his dream:  ” In three days you will be restored to your office and you will serve Pharaoh again” Gen 40 :13.

And Joseph said to the buttler,  “Remember me when you are restored, mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this  place”. Gen. 40 : 14.

The chief baker saw that the interpretation was good and also narrated his  dream. Gen. 40 : 16 -17.

Joseph told him the interpretations:

The three baskets are three days, and Pharaoh shall restore the buttler, on his birth day.

You  would be hanged. Gen. 40 : 20 – 22.

(4)  Events of life:

The interpretations came true yet the buttler did not remember Joseph and forgot him in prison.

We know the story of the dream of Pharoah, which made the buttler to remember Joseph.

Celebration Of Destined People.

Celebration may be delayed, but not denied in the scheme of God.

What do we learn from this episode?

Every set back brings a destined man nearer to destiny. When we talk of destiny we definitively speak of good things. We would discover that Joseph was getting nearer after each trial  to celebrate a divine purpose in his life.

What about you?

Is the Lord speaking to you as he spoke to Joseph in dreams, which aroused hatred of his brethren which led him to being  sold to Egypt to move him to God’s plan in   his life?

Are you facing  all forms of trials that might be life threatning?

Note that there will be no divine destinations, which are free ride. Joseph had to justify himself in the presence of a sugar mummy in  the home of Potiphar.

In the course of your journey, keep your hope alive by telling those who matter:

“Rememeber me”.  Joseph had told the buttler : “Remember me” and the time for remembrance came one day.

God will use people and while you do the good things you must  do, whether  under  trial, always sell yourself to those who  God may use to hasten your destiny.

May the Mighty God lead you to a successful end  in life, celebrating what  he called you to do in life Amen.
