Doers of the Word are blessed

Reading of the Day.mid

1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. (James 1 : 22 – 25).

THE MESSAGE :

The Gospel Bells Are Ringing.

Go through Sankey ( Sacred Songs And Solos) for the Sing ” The gospel bells are ringing” and note the specific phrases:

The gospel bells are ringing

(1) The Gospel bells are ringing,

Overland, from sea to sea;

Blessed news of free Salvation

Do thy offer you and me.

“For God so loved the world

That His only Son He gave;

Whosoe’er believeth in Him

Everlasting life shall have.”

(2) The Gospel bells invite us

To a feast prepared for all;

Do not slight the invitation,

Nor reject the gracious call.

“I am Bread of life;

Eat of Me, thou hungry soul;

Though your sins be red as crimson,

They shall be as white as wool.”

(3) The Gospel bells give warming,

As they sound from day to day,

Of the fate which doth await them

Who forever will delay.

“Escape thou for thy life,

Tarry not in all the plain;

Nor behind thee look- oh, never,

Nest thou be consumed in pain.”

(4) The Gospel bells are joyful,

As they echo far and wide,

Bearing notes of perfect pardon,

Through a Saviour crucified.

“Good tidings of great joy

To all people do I bring;

Unto you is born a Saviour,

Which is Christ the Lord and King.”

WE WILL USE THE SONG AS APPROPRIATE.

When the gospel bell rings it reminds hearers of activity. it calls the people to get ready to assemble at the church for prayers and for  listening to the sermon.

Many people hear the bell, but will not go to church. Such people are hearers and not doers of the word.

When you look at a mirror it tells all about you to you. You gather things you should do about yourself from the mirror, but when you take a way the mirror, you may just have a memory that will not speak all about you.

Value of Sermons.

Sermons will reach out to secret parts of many a man’s life.  Sermons dig deep, but some hear , walk out sorrowfully, but will not address the message in their lives. So such people remain in the same condition  without changing.

Sermons are  for spiritual rebirth.

Some sermons call for repentance. The hearers are drawn to areas where they need to get away from and please God. Not every one who hears such messages repent from their sins, therefore some some indulgeces are never put in check.

Sermons in all respects point to Christ and our salvation. We should hearvand do for the course of our salvation.

Sermons to address material life.

While sins will take people away from God and pave a way for them to go to hell, sermons that address material life will leave those, who do not follow it , to remain at several levels of physical backwardness.

What do we say in all all these?

People who hear and do not do are deceiving themselves.

We must never be forgetful hearers. Many people have made resolutions on how to change their lives for the better. Some are not able to remember their resolutions, and therefore continue in these things which affect them spiritually or physically.

A New Year Should See A Rebirth.

This is the rebirth to leave the old life of hearing and not doing, to a new life of following after the word of God.

Go through Sankey 356, and take some salient areas to help you.

Do not ignore the invitation by the Gospel. It is an invitation over land and sea and without boundaries.

Many people who entered this new year will not complete it,  but  the word of God we hear can help a lot to keep some alive or make way for some to enter a blessed eternity with Christ.

Hearing and doing will make a lot of difference.

Mocking the Preacher  is not good.

Some slite the invitation.

Some mock the word of God. Many have put their own preaching upon what they hear to make the Word of God of  no effect.

They are indirectly telling the preacher what they want to hear.

The preacher does  not speak his own word,  but speaks the word of God, therefore mocking a.message is like  mocking the Lord God.

Jesus said :

(1)  I do not speak my own.

(2) They words I speak to you they  are spirit and they are life.

It is therefore important to be careful with sermons for in them are life.

Prayer:

Lord God help us to be hearers and doers, that we will follow after your salvation given through your Word Amen.
