Prologue:
Whatever is happening to us today as christians, I want to be specific, is due to the fact that we fail to know, who we are and what we have. We prefer what others are holding in their hands. We envy what others are holding in their hands and neglect our own. So many are lost in this euphoria !
It is similar to a man carrying an elephant, who uses his leg to dig cricket. Israel forgot God, inspite of all His miracles, deliverances and care, to follow the gods of the nations, who they came in contact with. So God sold them to those enemies, who took them as slaves. A man who does not know who he is, and what he has, will serve those who ought to serve him.
But note this that God knows you and when you turn to Him, he will turn to you. Read:
“And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. (Psalm 9 : 10).
. . . . . And so the Lord will locate you..
THE MESSAGE :
The stray nation of Judah remembered God as we sing :
137:1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
137:2 We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
137:3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
137:4 How shall we sing the LORD’s song in a strange land? Psalm (137 : 1 – 4).
The above reveals the
sufferings of those who know or say they serve God, when in the environment of suffering. How can we praise God in the land of captivity?
What happened to Israel was known to God.
Most times what happens to us are due to our faults, with however, many exceptions. The sins of Judah led to their captivity. God had kept talkng about that. When Jeroboam in the time of Rehoboam went away with the ten tribes excepting Judah and Benjamin , God declared it was His making to deal with the sins of King Solomon. But at other times in the remnant tribes, ( Judah and Benjamin), there were sins which brought them to the Babylonian captivity.
NOTE THIS EVEN IN THE BOOK OF MOSES
Leviticus :
26:32 And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.
26:33 And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste. Leviticus (Lev. 26 : 32 – 33).
When people of God suffer,, many who know them as people of God, shudder their shoulders in disbelief.
The Babylonian captivity was the climax after their return to the promised land. And in the last 70 years they have been coming back; it has never been easy in the land of their promise. So in the last 70 years, the return continues.
The Mockery of the enemy.
In Babylon those who held them captive requested them to sing the love song. Our enemies today, when they see us in hard times say “aha aha; where is their God?”
God will locate His children. GOD WILL LOCATE YOU, GOD WILL LOCATE ME.
He has not utterly abandoned His people. We need a mind shift always.
We will sing our love song of praises to God in the land of our inheritance; and if we must do so elsewhere, let it be an evangelism. We will not sing our praises to God in a strange land.
I do not know what you, who is reading this or hearing me preach this sermon is going through, but the fact is that you will have a new dawn. The people of God remembered Zion. You will never forget the land of your heritage.
May God grant us the grace to remember Him today. As long as we are alive, the opportunity to find God and reclaim a lost glory is available.
“Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified. (Psalm 40 : 16)
THERE WILL BE A REGATHERING !
*Therefore there will be a regathering of the people of God who seek Him.
Read Jeremiah 24 : 1 – 7 and specifically verses 6 and 7.
Jeremiah was God’s mouthpiece before the exile. And when Judah were in exile, he was still with the remnants in the land of Judah.
Jeremiah foresaw the return as he prophesied:
24:6 For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.24:7 And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart. (Jeremiah 26 : 6 – 7)
THE PSALM OF DAVID NOTED THE RETURN OF THE SAINTS.
50:3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.50:4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.50:5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.50:6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah. (Psalm 50 : 3 – 6).
NOTE THESE PROPHETIC UTTERANCES TODAY :
Many of God’s people will, be located by God and returned to the land of their inheritance. Whether in the Middle Belt of Nigeria, Asia or where ever, God shall locate you. The Words of God abide. Those who praise themselves today for oppressing you, will tomorrow watch you celebrate victory.
Those who take you captive, spiritual or physical, will not be able to keep you, as soon God rises to your favour. You will be like fire in their bossom, as the ark of God was a terror in the temple of Dagon and in the environment of the lords of the Philistines , so you will be to the adversaries.. Those who hold your treasure will suffer, until they release them back to you.
There is an Amen to this.
