The message for this Sunday 6th October , 2019.
Prologue :
As the silvery linings of life give way to grievous emptiness , what next? Just pause a little from what you are doing now and read this message today. What next is the finals of a journey with no return.
This is the climax of life, for each person, poor or rich, young or old, no one will face this event in a different way. All must go through the same channel.
The Message:
Life is a struggle, but there could be vain struggles, when consideration is not given to the Life to come. There is a real life to come and that comes in eternity.
And Jesus said :
7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matthew 7 : 13 – 14).
The broad road and wide gate are the ways without rules, you go in and no one calls you to caution. It is the road of godlessness.
Instead of striving to enter eternal life many are striving for material things with no thought given to things of eternity.
Life here has been translated to competition, to gather all sorts of vanity. If you enter Onirsha through Owerri – Onitsha road, the initial thing that strikes your mind is the set of houses. Some adjacent houses are either one storey houses or three or four. What crosses any mind is competition. Let us do it as he has done his own. So the striving gets out from there to other aspects of life.
If the struggle goes that way only, very good , but some also struggle to do evil. God had told Adam : “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.” (Genesis 3 : 19).
The struggle to survive in this physical earth is quite in order, but what of life eternal?
Should such struggles not take place simultaneously in the right direction?
Adam sweated here and died at 930 years. Other descendants have gone the same way.
But none of them departed with any of the things they gathered. They all departed only with their soul and are remembered only by the survivors, in the good things they did, which bless God’s name. But they depart with nothing and neither remember nor carry any of those things that made them proud. Even the things they did evil to acquire go not with them.
Yet competition to gather is continuous. So Jesus calls all men to the way to eternal life. He says struggle to enter the narrow way that leads to everlasting life.
My mother in law was a pretty woman, but she said to me, “I no longer look at the mirror, all I see is but gullies on the face. This is a challenge of life, for in all, the beauty queens, what donyiu see?
What you see are but sunken jaws, sunken eyes, collapsed breasts and wrinkles. It appears all the beauty will be rolled away into mother earth, but what happens thereafter?
This sermon is not to frighten any one. The sermon is to encourage us to prepare for a life that fades not. The best of doctors are dying, The richest of men are crossing the bridge, all the struggles and the successes that followed it, whether good or bad are left here.
Only the soul continues to a life of eternity either to be in heavven or in hell.
There is a better home beyond the clouds.
And the Epistle to the Corinthians revealed to us :
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (1 Corinthians 2 : 9)
We have seen some of the beautiful things of life, some have counted their money in billions, some have built goodly houses, some occupied high offices, and after all that , what next?
When these successes and life of competition shall be forgotten, whst next?
It is better to prepare to meet the Lord for as this life winds up daily, it shall come to an end kne day and the choice for where to spend eternity may have been decided.
Save our souls Lord Jesus.
