BIBLE READING Luke Chapter 4 : 1 – 21.
Lead song from Sacred Songs and solos “Where will you spend Eternity, this question comes to you and me.” SS&S 430.
The Benefit in the Message :
The choice you make from this message of today will determine your victory or fate in eternity.
THE MESSAGE :
Some one said : “Take the world and give me Christ.”
This is a hard and trouble – filled choice in a world of many temptations too difficult to resist.
What is in the world and its temptations? These are the “many tantalizizing idols which people worship.”
The idols of the world are money ( mammon) , pleasures and various lusts of the flesh. New testament scriptures defines them as the works of the flesh which are listed below.
THE WORKS OF THE FLESH.
5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.5:24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Galatians 5 : 19 -21, 24).
EVILS OF THIS WORLD.
All the evils of this world, the things that make people rich, all the power and influence which people seek are found in these lusts of the flesh. Many have been drowned beyond recovery in them. Some do so as enjoyment and boast of them.
THE POSITION OF JOSHUA IN THIS MATTER
Joshua in entering the land of promise told the children of Israel:
24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
24:16 And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods; (Joshua 24 : 15 – 16).
EVERY CHILD OF GOD SHOULD MAKE A SIMILAR CHOICE AS JOSHUA AND HIS HOUSE.
To serve the Lord is the best of choices. If you go through the many issues addressed in the epistle to the Galatians, you will notice that people are choosing such things and rejecting to serve God.
You must never seek those things, because scripture warns by saying ” they that seek such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”
People who choose to serve God are headed for heaven. Those who go the other way have become candidates of hell.
THE POSITION OF JESUS WITH RESPECT TO THIS WORLD.
4:5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
4:6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
4:7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
4:8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. (Luke 4 : 5 – 8).
People are choosing many things today and have left the issue of God and heaven in the background.
CHOOSE TODAY ONE OF THESE EVERLASTING CHOICES.
The choice is either heaven or hell.
You cannot choose the two.
Take the one which you consider to be most beneficial. And Joshua said : ” but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”
OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Lord do not allow me, to choose the world. I want to live eternity with Thee save my soul.
