THE LORD SHALL END YOUR BITTERNESS!

God will give you the plenty of Elim.

(Exodus 15 : 27)

Water is essential to life. The first food a hungry man asks for is water.

As Israel continued their journey in the wilderness they came  to Marah, but the water was bitter and  they cannot drink so they  murmured.

What does mumuring mean ?

To mummur and to complain are two different words with degrees of offence before the Lord.

Murmur :

a half-suppressed or muttered complaint, it could be grumbling.

A mumbled or muttered complaint, it could be with bitterness iv heart.

Complain:

to  state a grievance · express dissatisfaction · find fault.

When God called Moses to go to Pharoah and take Israel out of Egypt,  Moses  raised many complaints. Murmuring however, is stronger than to complain.

Murmuring goes beyond complaint in that it is steaming in the heart with low voice , with  grumbling.

God having  proved them as they failed,  however gave them sweet water at Marah. It is not by murmuring that we get the things of God. Even before men mummuring may give no respite.

Read the following:

15:23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. (Exodus 15 : 23)

15:24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

15:25 And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,

(Exodus 15 : 24 – 25)

Moses did not mummur unto God for the experience at Marah. He rather cried unto the Lord. Let us take the example of Moses in the time of distress.

God proved them at Marah. Instead of mummung let us pray. Murmuring is bitterness of  the heart and when it occurs it is raised unto the Lord God.

God may not answer prayers made in mummuring, but will readily answer prayers of cry unto Him. To cry unto the Lord signifies dependence.

And after Marah :

“they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters. (Exodus 15 :  27).

Let us believe in  God that the good things of God are ahead of us , just as heaven is in the future. When we get to Marah in life, let us sing this song :

” He is my provider, He will  surely provide for me,  and provide for you.”

And God will give you the plenty of Elim.

Amen.
