GOD’S NAMES SPEAK OF HIS GREATNESS.

Our Theme today :

“”Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” (Psalm 20: 7).

Note this phrase “we  will remember the name of the Lord.” Let His name be our streng

Sunday sermon from Miracle Valley. 14th August 2022.

1st Reading Exodus 17 : 1 – 16.

When people of this world take names, either bad or good as a nickname or otherwise, the names speak of what they are known to do or what they stand for

Good, b ut let non  take the name of God.

Often the names fail in case of men,  this tells  people that.such people are finite beings. They have boundries, which they can not exceed proving they are not God who alone remains an infinite Being.

In life if.you are a boaster of what ever gift or power or influence you might have, note that you have nothing, which you did not receive and the giver,  who.is Almighty God can take it back without seeking for your approval

Today we shall take the following names of God and carefully note how the names came about. The names of God are awesome. We must fear him.

God earns His names so to say, we give Him.names which are of substance.

Jehovah Nissi:

The Amakekites attacked  the children of Israel unprovoked, on their passage to Canaan.

It was a fierce war that made God to state as a memorial, that He will put out the name of the Amalekites under heaven for ever.

I  went through Google to trace the name Amalekites and I have not seen anything of substance.

When you confront people in an unholy way be careful for you may erase yourself and your generation from being in existence for ever

Read the following:

17:13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.17:14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.17:15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of itJehovahnissi. (Exodus 17 : 13 – 15).

Jehovahnissi means : God our refuge.

When we are chased here and there we can run to God our refuge

Jehovah Jireh

God had told Abraham to take Isaac to Mount Moriah and offer him as a burnt sacrifice. Isaac had asked the father :”where is the lamb for the sacrifice. and Abraham had answered: “God will provide”

22:13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son

22:14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.   (Genesis 22 : 13 – 14)

God remains the provider for  His children. In desperate economic times let us remind God we recognise Him as the Jireh.

  Jehovah Shalom.

God has sent Gideon to go  and deliver Israel from the Midianites. Gideon felt  he will die. God assured him that he will not,  but  will have peace . Gideon had raised three 300,000 soldiers and God gave him 300.

The beginning of the assignment;

6:22 And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O LORD God! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face.6:23 And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.6:24 Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. Judges 6 :22 – 24)

The Victory:

7:6 And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.7:7 And the LORD  aid unto Gideon, By the three hundred men tha e Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place. (.Judges 7 : 6 – 7).

In all situations let us note the way of God:

AND TO ZERUBBABEL

4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. (Zechariah 4 : 6).

The names of God are  a standard above all confrontations. You that trust God is tapping from His Spirit. God is not in a hurty to act but even the delay of God carries His emblem of a mighty protection over us so long we are in Him.

Note this again:

The Psalmist had said :

20:7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. (Psalm 20 :7).

We will triumph by His name.

May God’s steadfast love rest on you.

Amen.
